Yongchun bamboo spice has a long history of more than one thousand years and its processing arts came from the Pu family, whose spice processing industry originated from the prosperity of Maritime Silk Road. The ancestral home of the Pu family was located in the famous starting city of Maritime Silk Road, Quanzhou.

The people whose surname is Pu in South Fujian Region are Arabic people who migrated along the Maritime Silk Road into Quanzhou

In the process of migration, they made a significant business of selling spices.

PuQinglan Spices Workshop was moved to Yongchun County by the Pu people from Quanzhou in 1646

It has been more than 150 years since "Pu Qinglan" was created and Pu Haixing is the 18th generation of the Pu Spice.

Every generation begins to learn to distinguish and make spices from the age of 5

In addition to the inheritance of skills, our names can also reflect the heritage

For example, each generation will take a name containing incense wood

My great-grandfather's name is PuKetan, and the Chinese character tan means sandalwood

My grandfather named PuQimu, which translates to "wonderful taste of wood"

There are hundreds of spices for the famous "Pu Qinglan", which are made up with superior Chinese medicinal herbs and valuable natural spices.

The traditional approach of PuQinglan Spices Workshop is to use natural spices

This is the rule of our Pu family and ancestral teachings passed down from generation to generation

We also hope that no matter what developments have been made to the fabrication technique,

The utilization of the materials should follow this basic rule

Take sandalwood as an example, we have some from India, some from the Kingdom of Tonga and others are from western Australia

The more than 150 years of spice processing heritage has spanned three centuries and the successor of "Pu Qinglan Spice Chamber" is still holding on to the ancient and secret processing arts.

Some spices do not smell very good in the beginning, so it needs to be stored and passed down to the next generation.

For example, when we make a kind of fragrance, it usually needs the production and perfection of many generations

Since modern people may have different demands on the fragrances, we must conduct appropriate research and adjust accordingly.

Now I will take you to look at the handmade crafts of Yongchun fragrance

My father will demonstrate the process for us

Now he is soaking the spices

Then the spices will be stained with powder

This process is called "spices chopping"

This action is called "spices slicing"

Nowadays, you will feel lucky when you walk into "Pu Qinglan Spice Chamber". Its heritage is passed from one generation to another, allowing us to closely feel the splendid achievements of the start of Spice Road a thousand years ago.
