President Xi Jinping will attend the upcoming Group of 20 Leaders' Summit via video link from Beijing and deliver important remarks at the invitation of Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi.

As President Xi's special representative, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi will attend the summit, to be held from Saturday to Sunday in Rome, the capital of Italy.

"The Chinese side is willing to work with all parties to push for the success of the summit and to make positive contributions for an early victory against the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the stable recovery and growth of the world economy," Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said at a regular news briefing on Friday.

The spokesman highlighted the importance of the G20 as a major platform for international economic cooperation at a time when the pandemic keeps spreading, changes and adjustments in the international economic landscape and global governance system are accelerating, and the recovery of the world economy faces a lot of instability and uncertainty.

"The G20 should build consensuses on issues such as restoring the world economy and promoting inclusive, sustainable development to jointly address common challenges," he said, urging the G20 to adhere to true multilateralism, carry forward the spirit of solidarity and cooperation, and seek common ground while reserving differences.

This year's summit will focus on "people, planet and prosperity", and see the participation of leaders from G20 member states and invited countries as well as representatives of some major international and regional organizations.

President Xi has attended all previous G20 summits since 2013. During these occasions, he made a series of important remarks that elaborated China's view on global economic governance which advocates equality, openness, cooperation and sharing among countries to address challenges faced by global development.
