Parts of southern China are expected to see the strongest downpours since this year's flood season in the next week, the National Meteorological Center (NMC) said Friday.

From June 26 to July 1, heavy showers are forecast to hit over 10 provincial regions including Zhejiang, Fujian, Jiangxi and Sichuan in southern China, with the accumulated rainfall in some regions estimated to exceed 400 millimeters, according to the NMC.

This spell of rainfall would affect a large area and last for a long period of time, said the NMC, adding that local authorities should stay vigilant for possible flooding and geological disasters.

Convective weather conditions, mainly thunderstorms and hails, are also expected for some southern regions of the country, the NMC said.
