Three DHL delivery vans were stolen in Milan between Sept. 4 and Sept. 6, prompting local law enforcement to alert anti-terrorism forces, Italian media reported Monday.

Milan Police Commissioner Marcello Cardona has reported the thefts to the Interior Ministry as well as the DIGOS anti-terrorism police, the Carabinieri military police, and the Finance Guard, La Stampa newspaper reported.

Such reports have become the norm under new measures to keep track of stolen trucks, vans and SUVs.

The measures were introduced following terrorist attacks using stolen vehicles in France, Germany, and Spain.

The latest such attack, which killed 15 people including two Italian tourists, took place in the Spanish city of Barcelona last month.

Investigators do not exclude the vans may have been stolen for other motives, such as to carry out a robbery, Italian news agency ANSA reported.
