The average monthly net salary in Macedonia went up to 22,808 MKD (436 U.S dollars) in June of this year, thus marking a 2.8 percent year-on-year growth, according to data released Thursday by Macedonian statistical office.

The highest growth of salaries was registered in sectors of art, hotels and mines, statistics showed.

On the other hand, the salaries declined in the sectors of construction, commerce, wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles.

Meanwhile, statistical office said that as far as gross salary is concerned, it amounted to 33,509 MKD, or 640 U.S. dollars.

Early this month, Macedonia also decided to increase the minimum salary up to 12,000 MKD, or about 230 U.S. dollars.

The government has allocated around 6 million U.S. dollars in the 2017 revised budget as a support to private companies which will have to pay their employees more.

However, despite the growth in minimum and average salaries, Macedonia is still considered as a country with the lowest salaries in Southeast Europe.
