The United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator for Yemen Lise Grande inspected situations in the Yemeni besieged port city of Hodeidah on Tuesday.

During her visit, Grande held separate meetings with officials from both warring parties to discuss means to facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid, according to officials from the Yemen's internationally-recognized government and its foe Houthi group in the port city.

Several districts in the southern outskirts of Hodeidah have been on the frontlines for more than a year.

A first aid convoy reached Durayhimi district last month, according to the World Food Programme.

The delivery came after the UN cease-fire monitoring mission in Hodeidah completed building control points in four front lines in the south and east of the port city, in accordance with a UN-sponsored deal reached between the Yemeni warring parties in Stockholm in December 2018.

Iran-allied Houthi militias have been controlled much of Hodeidah while the Saudi-backed Yemeni government troops have advanced to the southeastern districts.

The grinding war of more than four years has pushed over 20 million people to the verge of starvation.

The cease-fire deal was seen as the first phase toward achieving a comprehensive political solution to end the civil war in Yemen.
