Sudan and South Sudan on Friday reiterated commitment to cooperation for sustainable peace and stability in the two countries.

The two countries held joint talks on Friday at the presidential palace in Khartoum, co-chaired by Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir and South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit.

"Al-Bashir reiterated the importance of the visit and stressed a basic meaning that Sudan and South Sudan are two countries including one people, and this was the fundamental basis for addressing the South Sudan Peace Agreement and seeking to achieve it," Al-Dirdiri Mohamed Ahmed, Sudan's foreign minister, told reporters following the talks.

"The two sides voiced commitment to work together to achieve sustainable peace and enhance bilateral relations," he noted.

South Sudan's Information Minister Michael Makuei said that "there are strong historical ties between our two countries. We are one people in two countries."

"We still ask Sudanese government to continue supporting us and remove difficulties of implementing the deal," added Makuei.

Makuei reiterated stability of the security situations in South Sudan, pointing out that "the effect of the permanent cease-fire has already started despite the fact that a cease-fire monitoring mechanism has not yet been formed. All parties are committed to the cease-fire agreement."

Mayardit arrived in Khartoum on Friday for a two-day official visit to hold talks with al-Bashir.

On Sept. 13, South Sudan's conflicting parties signed the final peace deal in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa in presence of heads of state and government of the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development in Africa (IGAD).

The deal was reached through talks brokered in Khartoum by Sudan government with a mandate by the IGAD.

The final deal includes Khartoum peace agreement on South Sudan, which was signed last June, and the agreement on power-sharing and security arrangements, which was signed last August.
