Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu and his U.S. counterpart Mike Pompeo on Tuesday discussed bilateral relations over phone, state-run Anadolu Agency reported.

During the phone conversation, the two ministers exchanged views on the solutions to the existing problems between the two NATO members, the report cited Turkish diplomatic source as saying.

According to Hurriyet Daily News, a Turkish delegation headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Sedat Onal had left for Washington on Tuesday to resolve the current crisis.

The nine-member delegation, made up of officials from Turkey's justice, finance and foreign ministries, is expected to meet with the U.S. side on Wednesday.

Last Friday, Cavusoglu and Pompeo met in Singapore on the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) foreign ministers' meeting. Ankara and Washington agreed to work together to resolve problems between them, Cavusoglu said after the meeting.

Turkey and the U.S. are currently experiencing rocky relations after the U.S. imposed sanctions on two Turkish ministers over the continued detention of U.S. pastor Andrew Brunson, who faces terrorism charges and up to 35 years in prison if found guilty.
