Ghana June inflation rises to 10 pct
Annual consumer inflation rate for Ghana inched up 0.2 percentage points to record 10 percent year-on-year in the month of June, relative to the 9.8 percent recorded in May, Ghana Statistical Service data released Wednesday showed.
Acting Government Statistician Baah Wadieh attributed the rise in annual inflation rate to the 10 percent increase in transport fares.
"What we are experiencing is mainly the pass-through effect of the 10 percent increase in transport fares in May," he indicated.
With the increase in transport fares, coupled with the 5.5 percent depreciation of the local cedi currency against the US Dollar over the first half of the year, price levels of general goods have also gone up across the country. Enditem
