France will unfreeze public aid to Mali worth 150 million euros (203.47 million U.S. dollars) frozen after the French former colony plunged into violence in March 2012, a government official said Monday.

"The public aid for development will gradually resume when conditionality which means a roadmap that will lead ideally to elections in July, will be lifted," Pascal Canfin, Minister for Development, told AFP.

"In a first step, it's to resume (French aid) with 150 million euros blocked after the military coup ... Disbursements in humanitarian and development credits, will be based on the progress of the roadmap," the minister said.

Canfin, who accompanied French President Francois Hollande in one-day visit to Mali on Saturday, said the unfrozen aid will help to restore water supply, electricity and health services in the coming weeks.

After French and Malian forces claimed control of Malian main cities and close to win the battle against Islamist rebels in northern Mali, the European Union decided to unfreeze an initial aid to Mali amounted 500 million euros, according to the minister.

A meeting scheduled in Brussels on Tuesday was expected to shed more lights on "development issues" in the conflict-torn African state, Canfin added.

On Jan. 11, French army launched the "Operation Serval" in Mali at the request of Malian officials, to prevent the progression of jihadist groups, who have controlled the North since last year, from moving to the south of the West African country.

So far France has deployed 3,500 troops in the Malian operation. (1 euro = 1.356 U.S. dollar)
