Trinidad and Tobago is seeking to "materialize" cooperation with China, Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has told Xinhua.

At the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Keqiang, Persad-Bissessar will visit China next week.

Lauding achievements in bilateral ties over the last few years, Persad-Bissessar said her country expects more cooperation with China in energy, tourism, education as well as other fields.

"We see each other as nations who can benefit from the cooperation and friendship," she told Xinhua in an interview.

Persad-Bissessar regards China as a key business partner as her country is trying to penetrate new markets with its energy products.

She said the two countries can cooperate on renewable energy research and share expertise for energy projects.

"We are among one of the oldest nations to develop its expertise in oil, and thereafter in gas, so we have a lot to offer in expertise for projects related to energy," she said.

Noting that Trinidad and Tobago is a gateway to the Americas, Persad-Bissessar said her country boasts unique geographic advantages for business.

Hailing China's new leadership as forward-thinking and progressive, Persad-Bissessar said her visit, which coincides with the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between the two countries, will be "historical."
