Travels are surging as the week-long National Day holiday comes to an end on Sunday.

In Beijing, 33 extra trains will be operated in the capital city's three major train stations to meet the demand of an estimated 1.32 million outbound passengers on Sunday, according to the China Railway Beijing Group Co. Ltd.

Meanwhile, 580,000 people are expected to make trips back to Beijing on Sunday. Local authorities have extended operating hours of subway lines to meet the surging flows. So far, Beijing has seen more than 11 million passengers leave the city by train in the past nine days, up 7.2 percent year on year, according to the China Railway Beijing Group Co. Ltd.

In Zhengzhou, capital of central China's Henan Province, more than 190,000 passengers are predicted to take trains via the Zhengzhou Railway Station on Sunday, according to the station's Zhang Liying.

"The passengers are mainly students, tourists and those going home during the holiday," Zhang said. "We have added 39 extra trains."

The holiday is expected to create a 10-day travel rush beginning Sept. 28, with some 129 million railway trips estimated to be made, the China Railway Corporation said. A new record for daily railway passenger trips was set on Oct. 1, with 16.25 million trips made.
