BAIC BJEV, the electric car making arm of Beijing Automotive Group Co Ltd, or BAIC Group, released its tech system Darwin at the BluePark Technology Conference in Beijing on Oct 18, 2018.

The electric vehicle manufacturer also displayed 11 "black technologies" for smart and electric vehicles, covering multiple fields such as battery and charging.

The debut of BAIC BJEV's Darwin System redefines artificial intelligence usage on electric vehicles, said the company. The EU5, the first model of the company adopting this new system, also made its debut on the same day.

"Technology innovation is the only path to turn China into an automobile power," said Zhang Xiyong, general manger of BAIC Group, at the conference.

"Black technologies" of the new Darwin system includes an all-day battery technology, which enables the battery heat time to shrink from 80 minutes to six minutes at under 30 degree centigrade.

The large power charging system will halve the charging time of the previous system. Models with this system will be able to run for 450 km after a 15-minute charging on a 350kW charging pole.

The isolated double-charge and discharge technology (V2L and V2V) have been applied on BAIC BJEV's EU5 R550 model. The V2L technology will turn electric vehicles into a "super power bank", enabling customers to enjoy an electric barbecue using their own cars.

The V2V technology, on the other hand, can turn the vehicle into a standard AC charging pole, which can charge all electric vehicles in line with the national standard.

BAIC BJEV also released the company's mid- and long-term planning at the event. For instance, battery energy density of the company's electric vehicle will increase to 350kWh/kg, enabling the customers to enjoy a longer driving mileage at the same price.

The all-new battery system will also endure extreme cold of 40 to 60 degrees centigrade below freezing, according to the company.

Self-developed integrated power assembly of the company can increase the product's system efficiency by 93 percent. Silicon carbide material is also a future option of electric vehicle's machine controller, the company said.

Cloud platform and the application of 5G technology will be implemented starting from 2020, said the EV manufacturer, while the L2.5 autonomous vehicle will go into mass production in 2020.

The company also launched the BAIC BJEV BluePark Power System Co Ltd at the conference, aiming to establish a top level technology and auto parts supplier for new energy cars.

BAIC BJEV has invested more than 2 billion yuan ($288.26 million) in R&D in the past three years, accounting for 7 percent of its operation revenue. The company's R&D investment totaled 873 million yuan in 2017, taking up 7.62 percent of that year's operation revenue.
