Israeli medical device company Keystone Heart announced on Wednesday that it is being sold to Chinese company Venus Medtech, in a deal estimated at 100 million U.S. dollars.

This is the second exit deal of an Israeli medical equipment company within a week, after Mazor Robotics was sold to American-Irish giant Medtronic for a record of 1.6 billion dollars in Israel.

Keystone Heart was established in 2004 and headquartered in the coastal city of Caesarea.

It has developed a cerebral embolic protection device designed to provide complete coverage to all brain regions for patients undergoing cardiac procedures, especially surgeries for heart valve replacement.

Founded in 2009 and headquartered in China's eastern city of Hangzhou, Venus Medtech has developed a minimal invasive technology to replace heart valves.

"By offering the brain protection filter, Venus Medtech can differentiate itself as a valve replacement market leader," said Keystone Heart CEO Chris Richardson.

Eric Zi, CEO of Venus Medtech, said the acquisition can not only help the company "reduce the risk of brain injury during surgical procedures, but also provide "a presence in the United States and Europe."

Keystone Heart's product is not yet approved for marketing, but it is currently in a multicenter trial, hoping to receive marketing authorization in the United States in the next year.

The company also expects to get marketing approval in Europe by the end of 2018.
